Barnegat Light, NJ : Long Beach Island's Lighthouse Town
Greetings from Barnegat Light, NJ!
Barnegat Light, NJ is famous for its historic lighthouse. Yet, the vacationer fortunate enough to rent a beach house here has found a quiet get-away with rustic excitements like crabbing on the reefs, walking on dune trails, and sun bathing on a natural, beautiful beachfront. Located on the northernmost tip of LBI (Long Beach Island), Barnegat Light is out-of-the-way, despite the visitors to its historical museum and "Old Barney," the lighthouse. Most people on this end of the island use their bikes or "shanks mare" almost exclusively to get around.
The small, sleepy town feeling of Barnegat Light is because it is at the end of the island. From the top of its lighthouse, the tourist can see all the other towns stretched out along Long Beach Island, like a strand of pearls. Something about Barnegat Light's location and history makes this town extraordinary. The friendly residents, shopkeepers, and restaurant owners welcome the visitor and share their pride in this historic, sea-faring village.
